So my little dudes were rippin it up at OWC. This is such a great place to practice for kids. The staff is great and most of the other boarders are always willing to give the groms a few pointers. They have a full wakeboard shop, snack bar and pavilion for checking out the action. My little dudes are working CWB boards and an "OLD SCHOOL" wood wakeskate...it's so cool.

Ever wonder where Wakeboarding ranks in the extreme sports fanbase? Just how popular is the sport compared to other extreme sports? Well, we did some research and found out. The Sun-Sentinel recently posted an article on the growing fanbase in extreme sports, and you would be surprised what was on the list. Everything from wakeboarding and inline skating to ultimate frisbee and cardio kickboxing. Although, I don't know that I would consider those extreme sports they are more popular than lacrosse, beach volleyball, fast-pitch softball, rugby, field hockey, ice hockey and roller hockey! Of the list of 14 extreme sports, wakeboarding ranked number 10, with a fan base of 3,521,000 in 2007 (meaning that many people above the age of 6 participated at least oncein 2007). The article blames the rising fuel costs for the lower ranking. While, inline skating got number one with 10,814,000. For the full article check it out here. Extreme Sports Growing fanbase

Wakestock kicked off on Friday with some of the top pros competing on some of the toughest courses in the sport. The event of the day that drew the biggest crowd, however was the debut of the Sesitec 2.0 portable wake cable system at the Oakley Wakeskate Pool Jam. The system pulls the wakeboarders out of the Oakley launch pool, down a four rail stair set, out into the wake course and then back into the pool. This new cable system could be a huge step forward for the wakeboarding sport, elevating it to a new level.

Wakeboarding has a new home. Instead of California, which is the epicenter of most water sports, Orlando, has become a new home to wakeboarding according to a recent article from the Orlando Sentinel. Wakeboarders need lakes, not coasts, and Orlando can provide that, along with great weather and accessibility year round. Cobe Mikacich of Wakeboard Orlando (an instructor, and previous professional wakeboarder) says "once your in Orlando, you're already a better rider... if you're a top competitor you spend most of your time here." So, in the near future, Orlando may not be full of Mickey-crazed tourists, but instead of lake-searching wakeboarders craving the weather and accessibility of Florida's 544 lakes.

"You shouldn't call yourself
a wakeboarder unless you
know your roots"
Sort of the stepchild of surfing and skiing, wakeboarding has evolved from the daring experiments of bored water skiers and surfers. We can back track our sport as early as the mid eighties when the "Skurfer" (a hybrid of the ski and surf board) was thought up but there was so much more involved. The Mastercraft Pro Wakeboard Tour website does a well-researched job on the history of wakeboarding. So much has changed since the 20 some-odd years of wakeboarding evolution, with better board upgrades and a wide age range of followers, I wonder what the next couple of years will bring.

A 28 year old woman died last Saturday after falling off her wakeboard in a Central Florida Lake. Apparently, after she fell, a separate boat came by and chopped her up with it's propellers! That sucks dude. Now granted, the water was a bit choppy because there was a storm on the horizon but damn, if you're operating a motor boat on a lake full of other motor boats and skiers and wakeboarders, you'd think to have a look out for others in the water. You can't tell me that the props happen to 'strike' the wakeboarder. Last time I checked they were BEHIND the boat, so the dumb bastard must have ran her over first.
Is this sport becoming more of a liability? I guess that's why they call it an extreme sport. It's stories like this that will give a negative conotation to the sport. I can just see it, parents will be taking their kids out of wakeboard camps and what-not. I sympathize for this woman, but maybe the moron behind the wheel of the boat should be charged for SOMETHING.

Hey all,
Welcome to Wakeboardstuff.com…! Wakeboarding is everything to most of you hardcore boarders out there but to some it is becoming a new way of life.
Take me for instance; I have three little kids 11, 9 and 6…two boys and a girl. They have been wakeboarding, wakeskating, snowboarding and doing pretty much everything in the water and on boards since they were 3-4 years old. But now that they are getting older wakeboarding has become more of an obsession for them and a way of life for our family.
There's a lot more to it than just hopping on a boat and going, that's why (by popular demand) a group of guys from Florida decided to get together and bring you this website. We will try to bring you the most up to date info on wakeboarding, wakeboard boats, wakeboard gear, towers, ropes and other cool industry stuff.
We are not pro’s by any means and actually I drive the boat 10x better than I wakeboard, but we have learned a few cool things along the way. We would also like for you to share your experiences with us and help provide some useful content for the new comers to the sport, knowledge is power brother.
So, jump in the water, its always great in Florida. If you've been trying to find the latest on wakeboard designs, towers, bindings, brands, apparel or just wakeboard life in general… then chill, you've found the right place.
